Fate or Folly

By Dina Dove

Knowing I wanted to get an article out today, I went to my favorite resource for material.

The internet, you might ask?

Notes from college or higher education?

Heck no. My refrigerator door.

That’s where I stick the post-it-notes upon which I have jotted down insightful tidbits to ponder upon at a later time.

Today it’s a quote from Carl Jung.

“What we do not make conscious emerges later on as fate.”

My hat is off to Carl for this one. This is pure wisdom, spoken by a man who, like me, ignored the subtle hints…. and later the clear evidence… only to be hit upside the head with the proverbial 2x4 in the end.

Oh… if we could only pay attention to our life as it is unfolding.

Well, we can.

Every minute of every day our lives are ‘speaking’ to us. They’re ‘speaking’ in the form of thoughts, feelings and emotions.

There are recurring hints we can learn to pay attention to.

Here’s one that is a sure fire sign for me. Whenever I am in the midst of a project or a situation….. and I’m having a degree of unrest with some aspect or another and I think to myself…..
”Oh…… it will probably be all right….”

Well, that is my hint. I’ve ignored it a million times. My intuition is telling me ‘no’ and I am attempting to ignore it.

It has, on untold occasions, “emerged as fate.”

When things have gone to ‘hell in a hand basket’ (as my mother would say) I beat myself up with this….
“I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!”

Sound familiar?

So….. let’s get conscious.

Pay attention to your life up front. It will really cut down on the number of blows to the head, so to speak.

How true! I also think that the less attention I pay to my intuition, the quieter it gets - or maybe I just get TOO good at ignoring it.

Absolutely. But I think that sometimes we can outsmart ourselves. We need to take a small step back sometimes.
I think.
