Fishing Lessons for Children
By Dina Dove of Harry Turtle
When the subject of Welfare comes up, my mind immediately goes to the saying: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. There is a marked difference between the adult children of parents who teach responsibility to their children as they are growing up and those who hand out money and gifts to the kids on request. I admire the entrepreneurs who have dispensed with allowances, employing their children in their businesses instead. Some would say this sort of thing steals a kids childhood. I say it enhances them early and in their adult life as well. These kids are capable and confident at an early age. Having earned their own money from childhood and been responsible for buying some of their own clothes, they make different choices than others in their age groups. These same kids, wanting to work for someone other than dad, are motivated to get jobs during high school. Instead of partying their way thru college while racking up huge loans, they work during college and pay for their education as they study. They leave college with less debt and years of experience that shows their future employers they have already developed a work ethic. Truly, we are better off teaching, even our children, to fish. And, the earlier the better. It sets them up for success in life. Teach fishingto children and we can diminish the welfare rolls in a generation.

Just the medicine mum and dad dealt out to all of their 6 children. I really liked this intel and the common sense behind it.
